PyGS - My old Gopher server

A long time ago (on a computer far, far away) I coded up my own little Gopher server - PyGS. It was... okay. It got some publicity - heck, they even used it in a local college classroom as an example of a simple protocol.

Anyways, time went by and some others wrote better faster, better servers. I hit a bit of a wall in making improvements and the code actually went backwards as I tried to improve it. I realized that to make it really top-notch I'd have to re-write much of it.

Well, that wasn't going to happen. So I threw in the towel, shut the page down and added a note directing people to better things. And that was that.

Until a few days ago when I got not one, but two requests for the software. The site has changed drastically since then and I never bothered to bring the old PyGS along for the ride. But since people wanted it, who was I to say no?

So here it is. Version 0.3 and 0.35 of the software. Good luck!

  • Version 0.3 - I think this is a pretty good version.
  • Version 0.35 - This might have a serious run-time issue, maybe not. :)

PyGS is licensed under version 2.0 of the GNU GPL.
